Working toward your fitness goals is an individual pursuit. But as unique as your path to your personal goals is, you can choose to pursue this path as part of a supportive fitness community.
Being part of a fitness community brings you:
- A sense of belonging
- Social support
- A place to share common interests
Let’s take a closer look at a few of the benefits of being part of a fitness community:
Sense of Belonging
When you feel like you belong to a community, it does a lot for your physical and mental health. This sense of belonging comes from having a place to enjoy a fun activity with others. A single class is made up of people with all different levels of experience. But it doesn’t matter what you look like, how long you’ve been practicing, or how long you can hold a headstand. You know you belong – the class is for you as much as it is for everyone else who decided to show up that day.
When you work out with a group of like-minded individuals, over time this group starts to feel like your extended family. Your family is there to support you on your fitness journey and can offer encouragement when you need it most. At the same time, you’re able to provide support and encouragement to your fellow workout buddies. The social support that you’re able to accept and share with others makes it possible for you to make progress (at your own pace) together.
A community forms as the result of shared interests, goals, and intentions. Joining in for group fitness classes allows you to meet a group of people that you immediately have something in common with. We all seek to improve, grow, and share our knowledge in a positive way, and ultimately make an impact on our community as a whole.
