Getting the most out of your next yoga or workout class involves a little bit of preparation. Here are five things to do before your next class that will help maximize your experience:
1. Give yourself plenty of time to get to the studio.
Before your next class, take some time to gather all the items you’ll need for class so that they’re ready to go. Rather than rushing around trying to find everything, you’ll be ready to go. Anything you can do to avoid rushing to class will help you arrive feeling settled and prepared to work out.
2. Avoid eating a full meal right before class.
Try not to eat a full meal one or two hours before class. If you need a snack, stick to lighter foods, like a banana or a handful of almonds. Giving your food plenty of time to adjust before working out will lead to a much more comfortable class.
3. Drink plenty of water, but don’t overdo it.
Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water throughout the day – before, during, and after your class. Sipping on a water bottle throughout the day will help you avoid overdoing it. Drinking too much water all at once can create an uncomfortable sloshy feeling in your stomach.
4. Turn off your phone or put it on airplane mode.
Before class, set an intention to unplug for the next hour or so. Either turn off your phone or turn on airplane mode. Focus on your movements and breath and press pause on your notifications, social media feeds, news updates, or group texts.
5. Show up with an open mind.
Arrive at class with an open mind. Try not to set any expectations around what you “should” do in class today. Instead, tell yourself that you are exactly where you’re supposed to be. Try to stay focused on the present moment and make the most of today’s step in your personal journey.
