Every single person in a group fitness class had to start somewhere. Whether it’s their first class or hundredth, they’ve all actively made the decision to better their lives with a fitness class that pushes them to their limit. If you’re used to working out at the gym alone and have made the decision to switch over to a group class or are starting at a new gym, here are some things to know before your first group class:
You’re going to be sore.
Whether you’re used to working out alone or in another group class, a new gym is going to challenge you in new ways. That means, even if you’re already pretty fit, you should expect to be somewhat sore the next day. Don’t worry, though! That means you’re progressing, and soreness is a sign that you’ve pushed yourself in class and aren’t taking it easy!
Be ready to meet people.
With any group class, you’re going to be working out with people you may not know and therefore will possibly be meeting new people before, after, or during class. The community is one of the best things about a group fitness class, so be open to being social and talking to others and you’re more likely to have a great time.
Take it all in.
Choosing a home gym can be such an important choice in your fitness journey, so if you’re doing a free trial at a new place, take the time to soak it all in. Are the instructors nice and welcoming? Do they have everything you need or expect? Are there community events for members you’d be interested in joining? Don’t just take the class and leave, take the time to really see if it’s the right place for you!
